My style of Square Foot Gardening in the Desert in Van Horn, Texas based on the Square Foot Garden method as conceived by Mel Bartholomew. Here you will also find a few healthy recipes I've either created or borrowed from my grandmother and revised for health reasons.
In 1990 or 1991 I had the opportunity to see "Square Foot Gardening" with Mel Bartholomew when it aired on the PBS station on our local cable TV network. By the end of the first show I was hooked. Later I bought his book by the same title and three video tapes of the series. This site is an explanation of how I have adapted his method to my own situation - the hot, dry, arid climate of far West Texas combined with little time to spend working in the garden and few funds to purchase soil amendments, tools and other materials. The Square Foot Garden method turns out to be the most workable solution by far.
