Controlling Weeds & Pests
Weed control is very easy with the square foot method of gardening, while controlling pests is much the same in any garden.
Weeding
One of the greatest benefits to the square foot method becomes evident when you begin to weed your garden. You can weed one square foot per day or a few square feet a day as you wish. Your gardening soil is never packed because you never walk on it, so the loose soil lets you reach down and pluck out any weed you find easily.
You will likely find, as I do, that fewer weeds grow in your garden to start with, and very little of your time is actually spent removing them. My habit is to pull out a weed as soon as I see it growing, and I usually do this while either watering or harvesting my plants.
